Alli & Mickey | Portraits | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Portrait Pet Photographer Raleigh NC

May 8th, 2012

Growing up with cats all my life made me a bit unprepared for owning a dog. My yellow lab, Gracie, is sweet and loud and lovely. I’ve been a dog person for 5.5 years and I get it. I get that there’s something really awesome about being loved unconditionally by a furry, slobbery, four-legged being.

Alli gets that too. She called and asked if I could take some shots of her and her dog, Mickey. Of course I said yes! I don’t get to photograph doggies often but I love when I do. I love how these turned out!

Alli looks amazing as usual and Mickey was sweet as could be. Ali works at Lux Salon in North Raleigh and she’s truly amazing. I’ve been going to her to work miracles on me for several years now and I will never go to anyone else. Seriously folks, she’s wonderful! She wows me every time. If you’re looking for someone to make you feel beautiful again, call her. (And, by the way, she’s not asking me to say any of this. Actually, I’m probably embarrassing her… Sorry…)

Kaitlyn | Newborn | Milestone Sessions | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Newborn Family Photographer Raleigh NC

April 26th, 2012

I have to share some images of sweet Kaitlyn. I’m so backlogged on blogging that I not only did I prepare her newborn session blog post but I just prepared a blog post for her 6 month session. Yep. C’est la vie!

Kaitlyn was the sweetest little model. Perhaps it was the tummy full of milk, but I almost think she enjoyed the session. Her parents thought of the coolest idea for her nursery. Instead of doing the typical pink room with ruffles, they decided to paint the room a beautiful teal and decorate it with Marvin the Martian. You know who he is. He’s the little Looney Tunes martian with the doggie side kick who is always inventing things. Kaitlyn’s dad is an amazing artist and he drew different scenes on 5 huge canvases for her room. By the time Kaitlyn arrived, all 5 were sketched out. (You’ll see the final product painted in the 6 month session.) Such a cool idea and so unique. Love it!

More to come soon!

Amanda & Jess | Engaged | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Wedding Engagment Photographer Raleigh North Carolina

April 23rd, 2012

“Yowzah!” is the perfect way to describe this couple! Amanda and Jess were smoking hot to begin with but when you put them together, sparks flew! My camera (and I) love them. I try to get a feel for the couple and what they are looking for in an engagement session before we go out. Amanda had some awesome places in mind. We first went near the Boylan Street Brew Pub to get some shots there. If you haven’t been there, they have awesome beer. I’m sure they have other things there too but I only go for the beer. :) Then we walked around Fayetteville Street and Raleigh Hitch. So much fun!

I’m not even lying when I say my cheeks were flushed after I took this shot. I felt like I was being a peeping tom or a paparazzi. Hot!

Amanda thought it would be fun to stop by the ole’ Raleigh Hitch to get some shots. Love her!

Jess and Amanda are such a fun and beautiful couple. I really had a blast walking downtown with them!

I’m already booked for their October wedding so unfortunately, I won’t be documenting their day but I know it’s going to be be a blast! That is one lucky photographer!
Best wishes to you both!

Oliver | Newborn | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Newborn Maternity Photographer Raleigh NC

April 21st, 2012

My dear friends, Jenny and James, had a baby in February. I was very lucky to be able to see and photograph this little guy when he was only 10 days old. I try to photograph newborns within the first 10 days of their arrival since they are at their sleepiest during that time. I barely made it!

Oliver was so patient with me. I normally come to a newborn session with and Ikea bag or two filled with props, an enormous beanbag to help me pose, and lights/reflectors. I couldn’t fly with all that stuff so I had to make due with what I could find. I did bring a couple of things but for the most part, I got super creative. The one with Oliver putting his hands under his chin were done on a bed with tons of pillows and a prayer. He was sweet and humored me enough to where I got the shot. I will make sure to tell him I owe him one when he gets older. :)

Enjoy the photos of this sweet boy.

A Great Leap & Be Still | Project 52 | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Raleigh NC Family Wedding Photographer

March 15th, 2012
Hey everyone! Long time no blog. Don’t judge. I’ve been all over the place lately. No really. I’ve been traveling a lot in the past month and it’s thrown my schedule for a loop. I’m slowly but surely getting back in the swing of things. I’m a little far behind on Project 52. The subjects have been in the back of my mind but I haven’t had a second to sit down, download, and blog. I’m going to use this post to catch up a bit. You’ll have to forgive the iPhone photos. I’ve been using it a lot more lately and have found it easier to use to photograph daily goings on.
Week 9 – A Great Leap
Mason is a great kid. I wish I could legitimately play with him 24/7. Unfortunately, life gets in the way. I was so excited when Mason was invited to a birthday party at a local bounce house party space. Michael stayed home with Emily and Mason and I ventured to the party. He had a blast! Mason has had trouble in the past climbing the big bounce houses. The handles were always *just* out of reach and the bounce house’s constant movement didn’t help. This time, the kid took it like a pro. I was so proud of him. He wasn’t intimidated in the least. Rock on Little Man!

Week 10 – Be Still
This one is quite difficult for me to take. There’s very very very little stillness in my life. With a one year old and a (almost) three year old, my life is anything but still. My sweet Emily wasn’t feeling her best and decided to take a nap on me the other day. Her little head rested perfectly on a shirt from college from a musical I performed in. Love how this turned out.

Cabin Fever | Project 52 | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Raleigh Photographer Family Children

February 28th, 2012

My mother always said, “When it rains, it pours.” Lately, that has been the case with me. I’ve traveled more in the past month than I have in the past 3 years. I’m not complaining; it’s just interesting that it’s all happening at once. You saw from my previous posts that I was in New York last week. It was a blast to be back in my old stomping grounds and seeing friends. I promise to post more photos soon.

I have the same amount of patience for traveling as a 3 year old. My legs get itchy quickly and I’m don’t like to be cooped up. My first flight was cancelled and when I finally got a flight, it was long and I had a bit of a layover. Overall it wasn’t too bad but by the time we  landed I was over it. My initial thought was to take a photo on the plane. I decided not to because I was scared that I would get mobbed by angry, tired people. Instead I took a picture at baggage claim. For anyone who has had a long flight and then had to wait for their luggage, you understand how confining that feels. Here’s week 8:

Sweet Baby Oliver | Newborn | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Newborn Children Photographer Raleigh North Carolina

February 19th, 2012

One of my BFFs had a sweet baby boy less than 2 weeks ago. Little Oliver is adorable and I’m so grateful to consider him to be a nephew. I had the opportunity to go to New York and photograph him when he was only 12 days old. I can’t edit them all until I get home but here’s a preview of his newborn session. Can’t wait to share the rest.

Today! | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Raleigh Wedding Portrait Photographer North Carolina

February 19th, 2012

Did you know that the Today show on NBC photographs every show? Yeah, I didn’t either until recently. I had the honor of documenting Friday’s show. I was the secondary photographer that day and it was awesome. Everyone that works there is just as nice off air as they are on air. I’m not just saying that either. It was such a pleasant morning hanging out with with people who happened to be doing a morning show. Here are some of the images I took. Thanks for having me!

These puppies were so sweet. I wanted to take the small ones home but I don’t think that would go over too well with the family.

True Love | Project 52 | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Portrait Family Photographer Raleigh NC

February 16th, 2012

Well, I skipped a week. You have to give me a pass. I was out of town from the end of last week until Monday and then had 72 hours before I had to leave again. Excuses, excuses.

Well, I have my submission for this week. This one is easy – true love. I’ve been in love with the same guy since I was 10. For the couple of people that don’t know, my husband and I met in 5th grade and were just friends until he asked me to prom. We dated for eight years and got married in 2005. We’ve been together for almost 15 years total and I still think that Michael is the coolest guy I know. He makes me laugh every day and is my biggest fan. He’s the best father a kid could ask for. My children are extremely lucky. I’m extremely lucky. Love you Michael!

I took a photo for last week’s image so I thought I would post it. Last week’s theme was Drink Up! so I took an image of the yummy beer I enjoyed to celebrate a friend’s birthday. So tasty!

Shadows | Project 52 | Leah Charbonneau Photography | Family Children Photographer Raleigh NC

February 6th, 2012

Here’s my submission for week 5 – shadows. I had a lot of fun playing with the kiddos and Mason didn’t know I was taking the picture. Week 6 is ‘Drink Up!’ and I’ve got some ideas. Hopefully I can get it in before Friday!
